The Beekeeper of Aleppo follows a couple fleeing Syria, carrying their grief, memories, and hope as they journey toward safety in the UK. I loved it because it told the story of displacement with such softness and care, never sensationalized, always grounded in love. It made me think about what it means to be uprooted, survive something unthinkable and still remain open to beauty. I think readers who connected with that emotional honesty will also find something to hold onto in The Spoon and the Sea. My novel, too, is about memory, loss, immigration, and love that refuses to disappear, even when everything else changes.
